Event: Roll-Rings being demonstrated by Ideal Aerosmith, Inc.
Event Date: 2007-10-01
Release Date: 2007-10-01
Location: N/A
Description: Ideal Aerosmith, Inc. entered a cooperative effort with Diamond-Roltran, LLC to demonstrate the use of Roll-Rings® in rate tables. Roll-Rings will allow Ideal Aerosmith’s products to benefit from higher performance while experiencing lower life cycle costs. Roll-Rings are a next-generation rotary electrical transfer technology. Unlike slip rings, Roll-Rings provide a low friction rolling electrical contact instead of a sliding electrical contact. Rolling contacts eliminate the generation and accumulation of wear debris, a significant factor in the degradation of slip ring systems. The Roll-Ring technology provides lower torque, virtually no maintenance, longer life and cleaner signals. They also operate without lubrication when compared to conventional slip ring technology. Ideal Aerosmith, Inc. is located in East Grand Forks, Minnesota, and is a major supplier of rate tables for use in precision inertial guidance test systems, rotational rate tables, centrifuges, and high dynamic flight test tables. Their systems test inertial sensors, navigation and guidance systems while providing dynamic motion simulation for missiles, aircraft, launch vehicles, UAVs, and automobiles. Diamond-Roltran, LLC is located in Littleton, Massachusetts and is the exclusive manufacturer of precision rotating Roll-Ring assemblies. Roll-Rings are currently in use on the International Space Station and in numerous other commercial and defense applications including air traffic control radar, satellite communication antennas, semiconductor process equipment and other rotating systems that require data, signal and power transmission across a rotary interface.
